Anna Silvers’ latest release, Melon, marked an exciting milestone as she was named BBC Music Introducing Artist of The Week in the Midlands. This single channels a unique blend of Pop/Funk and Jazz influences, drawing inspiration from the legendary Amy Winehouse. Lyrically, Melon delves into themes of vanity, greed, and ego, exploring the tensions and power imbalances between establishments and society. Whilst the subject matter is serious, Anna wraps it in playful, quirky features that give the track a fun and memorable character. The song was written by Anna Silvers and co-produced alongside the talented Ben Keating. The track features Anna on guitar and lead vocals, Ben on saxophone and Martin Quinn on bass, with Ben also handling the final mastering. Anna had a lot of fun at the photo shoot with Laurie Clapson on photography and Holly Naylor on makeup. Ben Keating’s makeup was styled to reflect the darker side of ego and greed, while Anna’s look played into the fun and fruity theme of Melon. The contrasting imagery was designed to mock the serious, power-hungry persona, highlighting the idea that, in the end, none of it really matters.

Graphics on the album cover were created by Laura Hyde, who brought the title to life with a bold, fruity design. The cover features a photograph by Chris Gaffney, showing Anna in a more stripped-back look, seated next to the illustrated Melon character (drawn by Laura). This contrast subtly nods to the themes in the song, balancing the playful concept with a more grounded visual. As an additional creative element, Beatrice Benson contributed an original illustration inspired by her favourite lyrics from Melon, adding a personal and artistic response to the track beyond the main artwork.
Anna describes Melon as “made to have a light-hearted, summer feel,” and hopes it empowers listeners (especially those who need it most - a reflection of part of her ongoing artistic ethos) to stand up for and believe in themselves. As always, Anna invites everyone to enjoy the track and take what they need from it.
